Chocolate Date Bars

Who doesn’t like chocolate bars?? How about a healthy chocolate date bar recipe; easy to prepare. And too, all natural healthy ingredients with no sugar added and a background taste of coconut!! There aren’t not many ingredients and you don’t have to cook them. These healthy date chocolate bars provide healthy nutrition, they serve as an energy bar and satisfy that urge for chocolate. OK, so if they are that good let’s get on with it!!

Chocolate Date Bar Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups of pitted dates
  • 1 Cup of mixed nuts
  • 4 tablespoons of cocao powder
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds

Simply add all the ingredients into a food processor and process until everything is chopped up and mixed well.

Pour the mixture into a tray that has been lined with some parchment paper, flatten everything out and freeze for around 2 hours. Then cut the frozen mixture into small rectangular bars.

Couldn’t be much simpler right; and they are truly delicious!!! I flatten them with my hand and I use coconut butter (basically the same thing as the oil but solid). Sometimes I use almonds instead of mixed nuts.

I won’t lie, this is easy but the preparation is a bit messy; or very messy when I do it. But it is worth it and even with the cleanup it’s totally quick to prepare. I keep them in the freezer in a container with a lid and they keep there form well. However, I don’t know for how long they keep because they don’t last!!!

  • high in antioxidants
  • wrap individually and take to-go
  • Great Healthy snack any time – provides energy
  • Super snack replacement for the kids!! They’ll love it!!
  • great for hiking, long walks and runs
  • natural, whole food ingredients
  • easy to make in minutes
  • amazing, rich, chocolate flavour
  • delicious soft and chewy texture
  • perfect pre-workout for a natural energy boost
  • healthy essential fats
  • no baking required
  • vegan and gluten-free
  • naturally sweet with no added sugar

You will also need a very good food processor as mixing these ingredients is a bit of a challenge because of the dates. I might suggest that you GO Here for a Good Food Processor if you don’t already have one.

I did a calculation of the nutritional ingredients in these date chocolate bars. This is based on dividing the mixture up into 20 bars after freezing. The nutritional ingredients therefore are approximately per bar:

  • Calories ~100
  • Fat ~4 grams (Good Fat)
  • Carbs ~3grams
  • Protein ~1.5 grams

And remember that the sugar is all natural, no added sugar and the fats from the nuts, the coconut oil and the chia seeds are considered to be good fats!! I actually cut the bars into smaller pieces but that’s up to your preference. That way they last me a little bit longer (lol).

AS an example of the health benefits of these bars let’s consider just one of the ingredients. Chia Seeds are packed with fiber and among the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which have numerous health benefits. They’re also loaded with quality protein. They are high in minerals as well; including manganese, phosphorus, copper, selenium, iron, magnesium, and calcium. Chia seeds contain 19% protein. They provide all nine essential amino acids and are thus a high-quality plant-based protein. It’s like magic, enjoying a chocolate bar and eating healthy food at the same time.!!!
